The Black Heart of Africa is represented as the “Heart of Passion”, as the Heart of the Earth. A heart ravaged by ethnic wars, disease, deprivation, poverty and death. The wooden circle, worn and degraded, represents the Earth, consumed by the exploitation policies of multinational corporations, by pollution, deforestation and monocultures. At the centre of the circle is the “Black Heart”. A small double-sided sculpture created through the combustion of plastic materials. On one side, the fusion has incorporated stones, shells and small pieces of wood, as if to say that Nature itself is now imprisoned, fused into our plastic waste. Large arteries pump the resources hidden in the heart of Africa into the world, leaving it increasingly impoverished. Black Heart is a small tribute to Africa, violated and exploited.
