2025 Bust cm 50x83x30 Textile sculpture – bust sewn from ecru canvas and dried root
Mute Mother. Sterile Mother.
Rigid body, interrupted, fragile, deformed bust.
The womb is present, but empty. It does not generate. It does not receive. It does not retain.
White as arid sand, like a moon without warmth. The form remains, but the gesture is absent. The echo of the possibility of giving birth.
It appears gentle, yet it is closed. It does not nourish. A root clings to it like a final bond, but no sap flows through it anymore, no longer a vehicle for life. Muta Mater does not cry out. It offers no resistance.
Its rebellion is absence: of speech, of tears, of time.
It speaks through the emptiness that fills it. It does not narrate. It does not explain. In its existence without function, it reveals what we do not want to see: the desertification of the earth, of the body, of the gesture. There is no cry. There is no invective. Only an absence that weighs.
Its silent presence recounts the process of the Earth’s transformation: desertification emerges as a silent change, the result of broken balances and natural forces that react. Every dry root, every emptied womb, bears witness to a changing landscape, where life is reduced to rarefied forms and the breath of nature is interrupted.
Muta Mater observes this suspended, fragile and sacred moment, in which Nature itself reveals its metamorphosis, silent and irreversible.
